About Gunpowder Premium
Gunpowder green tea takes its name from its tightly rolled pellets, which unfurl as they steep to release a rich, bold flavour with characteristic smokiness and astringency. It is the traditional base of Moroccan mint tea, known locally as atay, a drink woven into daily life and hospitality across Morocco.
What is inside
100g of loose leaf Chinese gunpowder green tea.
Taste
Robust and slightly smoky, a strong, full-bodied brew with characteristic astringency that stands up well to mint and sugar.
How to prepare the perfect Moroccan mint tea
Rinse a heaped tablespoon of gunpowder tea leaves briefly in hot water and discard the water, this softens the tea’s natural bitterness. Add fresh water at around 90 degrees to the teapot along with a generous bunch of fresh spearmint leaves, and sugar to taste. Let it steep for 2 to 3 minutes over gentle heat.
To finish, pour a small glass and tip it back into the pot, then repeat this two or three times to mix the mint, sugar and tea evenly. Traditionally the tea is then poured from a height into small glasses, which aerates the tea and raises a light foam on top, a sign of a well made pot. Serve immediately.
Origin
China.
Bold, traditionally rolled Chinese green tea pellets with a smoky, full-bodied character, the classic base for Moroccan mint tea. 100g loose leaf.
Gunpowder Premium is a bold, traditionally rolled green tea sourced from China and presented in a pouch of 100g loose leaf. Its flavour is robust and slightly smoky, a strong, full-bodied brew with characteristic astringency, ideal for preparing authentic Moroccan mint tea. Gunpowder takes its name from the tightly rolled pellets that resemble gunpowder grains. This is the tea at the heart of the Moroccan tea ceremony, where it is brewed strong, poured over fresh mint and sweetened to taste, a ritual of hospitality passed down through generations.
